Choose the Right Output Torque

Before selecting a model, we recommend confirming the valve's breakaway torque rather than choosing an actuator based only on valve diameter. A valve may require additional torque after long periods of inactivity or when deposits and scale increase operating resistance.

For clean media and normal indoor service, a safety factor of approximately 1.5 is a useful starting point. For conventional outdoor or water-treatment conditions, consider 1.5–2.0 times the valve's breakaway torque. For valves prone to scaling, sediment buildup, or sticking, a factor of 2.0–2.5 may be appropriate. The final selection should also account for the valve manufacturer's requirements and the actual operating conditions.

For example, if a valve has a measured breakaway torque of 80 N·m, a preliminary selection may fall within 120–160 N·m for general service. We recommend confirming the required torque margin before ordering. This compact range provides 10–500 N·m output torque and is intended for compatible small and medium-sized quarter-turn valves. For butterfly valves DN250 and larger, high-torque duties, or demanding continuous operation, a standard-size actuator may be more suitable.

Match the Control to Your System

The required control method affects both the Compact Electric Actuator configuration and the way it connects to the automation system. We provide three main options to suit different control tasks.

Control type Main functions Typical use
On-off Fully opens or closes the valve and provides passive contact feedback. Pipeline isolation and remote valve switching.
Modulating Supports 4–20 mA or 0–10 V analog signals for adjustable valve positioning. Flow and pressure regulation in HVAC and water-treatment systems.
Intelligent bus Supports Modbus RTU communication for remote commands, parameter configuration, and fault diagnosis. Building automation and centralized control systems.

For modulating applications, we can discuss optional signal-loss responses, including holding the last position, moving to fully open, or moving to fully closed. The appropriate response depends on the process requirements and must be confirmed for the selected configuration.

Check the Mechanical Interface

ISO 5211 Mounting

The mounting interface should match both the actuator and the valve. This series uses ISO 5211 mounting interfaces with F03, F04, F05, and F07 options, depending on the model. Before ordering, confirm the flange dimensions, bolt pattern, output-shaft capacity, and the valve stem's shape and dimensions.

Square and round valve stems may require different adapter bushings. Correct alignment is essential: a misaligned stem can increase friction, cause jamming, and accelerate wear in the transmission. We recommend checking the valve manually before fitting the actuator and ensuring that the mounting flange can safely withstand the actuator's output torque.

Rotation and Stroke Time

The standard rotation direction is clockwise to close; counter-clockwise closing can be customized. Standard operating time is approximately 10–30 seconds, while faster or slower configurations may be available depending on the application. A slower stroke may be helpful in systems where rapid valve movement could contribute to water hammer.

Confirm the required rotation angle, opening and closing time, and fail-position requirements before production. Actual stroke time depends on the selected model and configuration.

Protection for the Installation Environment

Environmental conditions can affect housing life, electrical reliability, and long-term positioning performance. Our standard configuration uses a powder-coated ADC12 die-cast aluminum-alloy housing with IP65 protection. IP67 and other special configurations are available subject to model confirmation.

  • Indoor equipment rooms: Standard IP65 protection may be suitable when installation conditions are within the specified limits and cable entries are properly sealed.
  • Outdoor and damp locations: Consider IP67 protection and appropriate measures against condensation. Standard IP65 units are not designed for long-term immersion.
  • Coastal or corrosive environments: A customized 304 stainless-steel housing, corrosion-resistant fasteners, and suitable seals may be required.
  • Long-term underwater service: A specially configured IP68 version must be confirmed. Standard IP65 or IP67 units should not be treated as continuously submersible.
  • Potentially explosive areas: Use only a model with the required explosion-protection certification and marking for the site's hazardous-area classification. An ordinary actuator is not suitable for these areas.

An optional Ex db IIB T4 version is available for specified hazardous environments. Confirm the gas group, temperature class, zone, certificate, wiring method, and installation requirements before ordering. The explosion-proof designation must match the actual site classification; it should not be inferred from the power supply alone.

Housing, Seals, and Power Options

The standard housing is designed for general-purpose installation. For more demanding surroundings, material selection should reflect the external environment as well as the valve's operating conditions.

Component Available configuration or guidance
Housing Powder-coated ADC12 aluminum alloy as standard; customized 304 stainless steel for selected corrosive or salt-spray environments.
Seals NBR for general water and air; EPDM for suitable hot-water applications; FKM for selected oil or chemical environments; PTFE options subject to configuration review.
Transmission Standard tin-bronze worm gear and quenched 45# steel worm; a 304 stainless-steel output shaft can be considered for selected corrosive environments.
Power supply AC220V and DC24V options; AC380V may be available for selected higher-torque models.
Ambient temperature Standard range: -20°C to +60°C. Customized low-temperature configurations may be available down to -30°C.

Seal and housing compatibility depends on the specific medium, temperature, and external exposure. We recommend providing these details during inquiry rather than selecting materials from the media name alone. Special configurations outside the standard temperature range require technical confirmation.

How the Drive Mechanism Protects Valve Position

The worm-gear transmission provides a self-locking function intended to help maintain valve position when power is lost. Dual mechanical and electrical travel limits help prevent over-travel, while built-in motor over-temperature protection helps reduce the risk of motor damage under abnormal operating conditions.

Manual emergency operation allows the valve to be operated during power outages or maintenance, following the product's operating instructions. These functions support routine operation, but they do not eliminate the need to inspect a sticking valve or correct a mechanical fault. An actuator should never be used to force a seized valve through its stroke.

Where This Range Is Used

Water Supply and Treatment

For municipal water systems, pump rooms, reclaimed-water lines, and wastewater-treatment auxiliaries, the Compact Electric Actuator can operate compatible butterfly valves and ball valves for remote isolation or flow adjustment. Humid underground locations require particular attention to sealing and condensation control.

HVAC and Heat-Exchange Equipment

In chilled-water, cooling-water, and heat-exchange systems, modulating models can support valve-position adjustment for flow and temperature control. The selected signal type must match the controller or building-management system.

Building Automation and Fire-Protection Auxiliaries

The compact structure is useful in pipe shafts, suspended ceilings, and equipment installations with restricted space. On-off models can be considered for compatible isolation tasks, subject to the applicable system design and regulatory requirements. Fire-protection use must be checked against the project's specific approvals and requirements.

Air Ducts and Auxiliary Industrial Lines

Compatible air dampers and auxiliary process pipelines may use electric actuation for remote switching or adjustment. For chemical workshops, coastal facilities, and other demanding environments, we recommend confirming the housing, seal, protection, and certification requirements before selecting a configuration.
