Liangfa's QT Series Intelligent Electric Actuator is designed for automated control of 90° rotary valves in water treatment, HVAC, fire protection and municipal pipeline systems. With rated torque options from 10 to 2000 N·m, IP67 protection and an integrated control module, it supports both on-off operation and continuous valve-position adjustment.

We offer AC220V, AC380V and DC24V configurations, along with optional Modbus-RTU communication and explosion-proof versions, helping customers select a suitable actuator for their valve specifications and control systems. As a high-tech enterprise, Liangfa provides technical selection guidance, factory inspection and after-sales support for industrial valve automation projects.

Control Options for Different Automation Needs

When selecting an actuator, buyers need to consider not only output torque but also how the valve will be controlled and monitored. Our design combines the drive mechanism and control electronics in one unit, reducing the need for a separate external control module.

On-Off Control

The on-off version operates the valve between fully open and fully closed positions. Passive contact outputs provide open and closed status signals for external monitoring. This configuration is suitable for fire-water isolation, water supply pipelines and other systems that require two-position control.

Modulating Control

The intelligent modulating version accepts a 4–20 mA input signal to adjust valve travel and provides a corresponding 4–20 mA position-feedback signal. Operators can use the local LCD and HMI panel to check operating status, switch between local and remote modes, and configure travel parameters. This option is useful for HVAC flow regulation, water treatment processes and other applications requiring continuous adjustment.

PLC and DCS Integration

An optional Modbus-RTU communication module allows the actuator to connect with compatible PLC or DCS systems. This helps plant operators monitor valve status and coordinate actuator operation from a central control room. Communication compatibility, wiring arrangements and supported functions should be confirmed when ordering.

The integrated encoder records valve position and supports local calibration of the fully open and fully closed positions. Over-torque protection, motor-overheating protection and over-travel alarms help identify operating problems. Fault information displayed on the local panel can assist maintenance personnel in troubleshooting.

Torque and Valve Compatibility

The QT Series Intelligent Electric Actuator is a 90° part-turn drive unit for compatible butterfly valves, ball valves and plug valves. It is not designed for linear-stroke valves such as gate valves and globe valves. Selecting the correct model requires checking the valve's actual operating torque, mounting interface, stem dimensions and required travel.

The rated torque range is 10–2000 N·m. The following table provides an initial reference for soft-seated butterfly valves operating with water at PN10/PN16. Actual valve torque supplied by the valve manufacturer must take priority over nominal diameter alone.

Actuator Model Rated Torque Reference Butterfly Valve Size
QT0-10 10 N·m DN50
QT0-20 20 N·m DN65
QT1-40 40 N·m DN80
QT1-60 60 N·m DN100
QT2-100 100 N·m DN125
QT2-150 150 N·m DN150
QT3-200 200 N·m DN200
QT3-300 300 N·m DN250
QT4-400 400 N·m DN300
QT4-600 600 N·m DN350–DN400
QT5-800 800 N·m DN450
QT5-1000 1000 N·m DN500
QT6-1500 1500 N·m DN600–DN700
QT7-2000 2000 N·m DN800

For preliminary selection, actuator rated torque should generally be at least 1.5–2 times the valve's actual operating torque. A factor of 1.5 may be suitable for clean water and conventional HVAC service, while wastewater, suspended solids, long idle periods or large valve sizes may require a factor closer to 2.0 or a project-specific assessment. For butterfly valves DN900 and above, the torque requirement must be calculated separately rather than extrapolated directly from this table.

Check the Mounting Interface

The actuator uses ISO 5211 mounting interfaces, with F03, F04, F05, F07, F10 and F12 options, and is designed in accordance with JB/T8528. Before ordering, confirm the valve's flange code, stem diameter and stem shape. A mismatch between the actuator output and valve stem can prevent correct assembly or increase operating resistance.

The housing is made from die-cast aluminum alloy with an electrostatic powder-coated finish. A fully enclosed drive motor includes overheat protection, while the worm-and-wormwheel reduction mechanism provides mechanical self-locking to help maintain valve position when power is interrupted. A manual operating mechanism supports local valve operation during a power failure, subject to the operating procedure for the installed model.

IP67 is the standard enclosure protection rating. An explosion-proof version is available for applications that require it, but the standard actuator must not be installed in a hazardous area. Buyers should verify the exact certification, gas group, temperature class, supply voltage and installation requirements of the selected version before use.

How to Match the Actuator to Your Site

Operating conditions affect valve torque, control stability and service life. We recommend evaluating the medium, ambient temperature, installation location and control requirements before finalizing the configuration.

Water Supply and HVAC

For clean water, chilled-water circulation and building services, the actuator can provide on-off or modulating control when correctly matched to the valve. Confirm the valve's rated torque and the required control signal, particularly for continuous flow adjustment.

Sewage and Reclaimed Water

Sludge and suspended solids can increase valve operating resistance and trigger over-torque alarms. Regularly inspect and clean the valve stem and related components. For corrosive atmospheres or media, specify an appropriate corrosion-resistant configuration after reviewing the actual chemical conditions.

Air and General Gas Lines

The unit can operate compatible rotary valves in non-corrosive, low-pressure air and gas systems. Dusty or chemically aggressive environments may require additional protection or a different configuration. Confirm that the selected valve and actuator are suitable for the medium and process conditions.

Cold Outdoor Installations

The stated standard ambient range is -20°C to +70°C. For colder environments, an optional electric heating assembly can help reduce condensation and icing risks. Confirm the low-temperature operating range of the complete actuator configuration rather than assuming the heater extends the rated range automatically.

Hazardous Areas

Where flammable gases or vapors may be present, use only a correctly certified explosion-proof version suitable for the area's classification. The standard IP67 model is not explosion-proof. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for electrical isolation, enclosure opening and maintenance; do not open an energized unit or compromise flameproof joint surfaces.

Installation and Commissioning Checks

Correct installation is essential for accurate valve positioning and dependable operation. We recommend the following checks during installation and commissioning.

Before Mounting

Verify the actuator model, rated torque, supply voltage, flange dimensions and valve-stem configuration. Manually check that the valve can travel smoothly through its intended 90° stroke without binding. Remove debris from the mounting surfaces and inspect the housing and cable glands for damage.

Wiring and Position Calibration

Disconnect the power supply before wiring. Keep power and signal cables appropriately separated, and follow the wiring diagram for the selected control version. After installation, use the local panel to set the fully closed and fully open positions, save the stroke settings and verify that the displayed position matches the actual valve position.

Remote-Control Test

For modulating models, test the 4–20 mA command signal and confirm that the position-feedback signal responds as expected. If Modbus-RTU is fitted, verify the communication settings and compatibility with the PLC or DCS. Test alarm handling and loss-of-signal behavior according to the project requirements.

Routine Maintenance

Inspect the enclosure, cable glands, mounting bolts and electrical connections periodically. Check for unusual noise, vibration, moisture ingress or repeated overload alarms. Recalibrate valve travel when necessary and investigate mechanical binding before changing torque settings. Excessive torque settings can damage soft valve seats and other valve components.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the actuator be connected directly to a PLC or DCS?

Yes, the optional Modbus-RTU communication module supports integration with compatible PLC and DCS systems. The modulating version also supports 4–20 mA command and position-feedback signals. Confirm the communication protocol, wiring and required functions before ordering.

How do I choose between AC220V, AC380V and DC24V?

Choose the power supply according to the available site power and control-system design. AC220V is commonly used in building and HVAC systems, while AC380V may be specified for larger, higher-torque applications. DC24V can be selected for compatible low-voltage control systems. Confirm the voltage rating of the exact model.

Can one actuator model fit different valve sizes?

Not automatically. Compatibility depends on actual valve operating torque, flange dimensions, stem shape and stem diameter. The torque-to-DN table is a preliminary reference for specified soft-seated butterfly valves, not a universal fit chart. Send us the valve model and operating conditions for confirmation.

Can the standard model be used in a flammable-gas area?

No. The standard IP67 version is not explosion-proof. An appropriately certified explosion-proof model must be selected for the hazardous-area classification. Confirm the required certification and temperature class before installation.

What should I check if the valve-position feedback is inaccurate?

First compare the displayed position with the actual valve position and check whether the open and closed travel limits have been calibrated correctly. Also inspect the valve for binding, verify signal wiring and review any fault codes. Isolate the power before opening the enclosure or carrying out electrical maintenance.

What information should I provide for a quotation?

Please provide the valve type and model, nominal diameter, rated or measured operating torque, flange and stem dimensions, power supply, control mode, feedback or communication requirements, ambient temperature and any hazardous-area requirements.
