At Liangfa, we design compact electric actuators for automated valve control where installation space, positioning accuracy and reliable signal communication are important. Our Compact Intelligent Electric Actuator integrates drive, position detection and control functions into one unit, reducing the need for additional control accessories.

It supports 4–20 mA modulation, local and remote operation, and optional Modbus RTU communication for compatible automation systems. As a high-tech enterprise, Liangfa provides product selection assistance and technical support to help customers match actuator performance with valve specifications and site conditions.

Control Accuracy and System Compatibility

For applications that require more than simple open-and-close operation, our Compact Intelligent Electric Actuator supports continuous valve-position adjustment through a 4–20 mA DC input signal, with a corresponding 4–20 mA position-feedback output. The integrated positioning system eliminates the need for a separate external valve positioner in compatible configurations, helping simplify wiring and reduce installation work.

The built-in encoder monitors valve position, while the adjustable dead band helps reduce unnecessary movement caused by small signal fluctuations. Operators can select local or remote control according to the process requirements. For projects that require centralized communication, optional Modbus RTU allows connection to compatible PLC, DCS and other supervisory control systems.

During configuration, we recommend confirming the control mode, signal-loss response and communication requirements before ordering. Depending on the application, the signal-loss setting can be configured to hold the current position, move to fully open or move to fully closed.

Match the Actuator to the Valve

Check Operating Torque First

The Compact Intelligent Electric Actuator must provide sufficient torque to operate the connected valve under actual working conditions. Valve size alone is not enough to determine the correct actuator, because required torque can vary with valve design, seat material, differential pressure, medium and operating temperature.

As a preliminary selection reference, the original product data suggests the following torque ranges for soft-seated wafer butterfly valves:

  • DN50–DN150: approximately 50–150 N·m
  • DN200–DN300: approximately 200–400 N·m

These figures are reference values rather than universal sizing rules. We recommend obtaining the valve manufacturer's operating-torque data and applying an appropriate safety margin. The supplied technical guidance suggests selecting rated actuator torque at approximately 1.2–1.5 times the actual valve operating torque, subject to the valve manufacturer's recommendations and the process conditions.

Confirm the Mounting Interface

The ISO 5211 flange options include F03, F04, F05, F07 and F10. Please check both the actuator mounting flange and the valve stem or output-shaft dimensions. If the shaft dimensions do not match, a suitable adapter sleeve may be required. Correct alignment helps prevent unnecessary mechanical stress and uneven loading during operation.

Select the Correct Power Supply

AC220V is a common option for industrial installations, while DC24V may be suitable for building automation and control systems designed around low-voltage power. AC380V is available for configurations that require it. The selected supply must match the actuator nameplate and the available site power; voltage compatibility should be confirmed before wiring.

Built for Space-Limited Installations

The integrated design combines the motor, worm-gear transmission, control electronics and position detection in a compact housing. This arrangement is useful in pipe shafts, ceiling voids, pump rooms and equipment skids where a larger actuator may be difficult to install or maintain.

The housing is made from die-cast aluminum alloy with an anti-corrosion coating. Standard IP65 protection helps prevent dust ingress and withstands water jets under the conditions defined by the rating. An optional IP67 configuration can be considered for installations that require additional protection against temporary immersion, subject to the manufacturer's specified test conditions and correct cable-entry sealing.

The worm-gear mechanism provides power-off self-locking to help maintain the valve position when electrical power is interrupted. A manual operating mechanism is also available for suitable configurations, allowing operators to move the valve locally when required by the maintenance procedure.

For outdoor installation, we recommend a suitable sun and rain shield, properly sealed cable glands and downward-facing cable entries where practical. The standard enclosure is not designed for permanent underwater service. An ordinary model must also not be installed in an explosive atmosphere; the appropriate certified explosion-proof version is required for hazardous areas.

Protection and Fault Response

Unexpected valve resistance, incorrect signals or excessive motor temperature can interrupt an automated process. To help reduce equipment damage, our intelligent actuator incorporates several protective functions.

  • Travel limits: Mechanical and electronic limits help control the permitted operating range.
  • Over-temperature protection: Helps protect the motor when its temperature rises beyond the permitted operating range.
  • Overload and stall protection: Stops operation and triggers an alarm when abnormal resistance or excessive load is detected.
  • Signal-loss protection: Supports configurable responses for compatible control configurations.
  • Fault diagnosis: Helps identify conditions such as overload, signal loss and abnormal valve-position feedback.
  • Power-failure memory: Retains relevant position or configuration information to reduce the need for recalibration after a power interruption.

These functions support troubleshooting but cannot remove a mechanical blockage inside the valve. If an overload alarm occurs repeatedly, the valve should be inspected for jamming, excessive operating torque, incorrect sizing or mechanical wear before the actuator is returned to service.

Operating Conditions to Check Before Ordering

Temperature and Heat Transfer

The standard ambient operating range is -20°C to +60°C. If the actuator is installed near a hot valve body or high-temperature process line, an extended mounting bracket or heat-insulating arrangement may be needed to reduce heat transfer. For temperatures outside the standard range, please consult us about a suitable customized configuration rather than assuming the standard model will perform normally.

Humidity and Condensation

IP65 protection is suitable for many ordinary industrial environments, but persistent condensation can still affect internal electrical components if sealing or installation is inadequate. For humid pump rooms, basements and wastewater facilities, an optional internal heater and IP67 protection may be worth considering. Cable glands, seals and enclosure condition should also be checked during maintenance.

Dust, Vibration and Corrosion

Dust accumulation can reduce heat dissipation, so the housing should be inspected and cleaned as part of routine maintenance. Where pumps or compressors generate strong vibration, use appropriate vibration-reduction measures and check fasteners and wiring regularly. The standard aluminum-alloy housing is intended for ordinary atmospheric conditions; heavy salt fog, strong acids, alkalis or corrosive gases may require enhanced surface protection or a specially selected housing.

Operating Frequency

The Compact Intelligent Electric Actuator is intended for suitable rotary-valve modulation and on-off control, but frequent short-cycle movements can increase motor temperature and accelerate wear. If the control system continually reverses the valve in response to small changes, review the dead-band setting and control-loop tuning. The required stroke time and operating frequency should be confirmed during selection.

Installation and Commissioning Checklist

Correct installation helps preserve positioning accuracy, enclosure protection and mechanical service life. We recommend the following checks before the equipment enters normal operation.

  1. Inspect the valve: Confirm that it moves smoothly through its full stroke and does not have excessive operating torque or mechanical blockage.
  2. Verify compatibility: Check the actuator model, rated torque, voltage, ISO 5211 flange, shaft dimensions and control signals.
  3. Mount and align: Align the actuator with the valve shaft, fit any required adapter, and tighten mounting bolts evenly.
  4. Complete wiring safely: Isolate the power supply before wiring. Follow the supplied wiring diagram, grounding instructions and cable-sealing requirements.
  5. Calibrate travel: Set the fully closed and fully open positions according to the product instructions, then configure the control direction and dead band.
  6. Test control signals: Check local operation, remote 4–20 mA response, position feedback, limit protection and the configured signal-loss response.
  7. Run trial cycles: Perform several complete operating cycles and verify smooth movement, correct stopping positions and the absence of abnormal alarms.

For routine maintenance, inspect the enclosure, cable glands, mounting bolts, wiring, manual operating mechanism and signs of unusual heat or noise. If position feedback becomes unstable or overload alarms recur, check the control signal and valve condition before changing actuator parameters.
